The Kite in the Tall Tree

This story happens at the park. There is a super big hill for bikes and a pond with ducks. My best friend Max and I ride our bikes there. My dog Biscuit, who can talk, runs next to us super fast with his ear flopping.

We race down the big hill, and Max goes no hands and wins like always. But then Biscuit stops and sniffs. "Guys! Somebody is crying!" he says. There is a little girl by the pond, and her kite is stuck way up in the tallest tree.

Max says, "Don't worry, we are gonna get it!" He tries to climb the tree, but it is too tall and the branches are too skinny. Biscuit tells the little girl a joke about a duck so she stops crying. Then I get a super good idea.

We make a bike tower! Max holds his bike up straight and I climb on the seat and stand on his shoulders. Biscuit sniffs out the string that's hanging down. But it is still too high. My fingers only just touch the string, and it goes swishing away in the wind.

Then the ducks help! Biscuit talks to the ducks and asks them super nice, and the whole duck family flaps up into the tree together. They grab the kite string in their beaks and pull and pull. The kite pops loose and floats down right into the little girl's hands.

The little girl is named Lily, and she says thank you a million times. She asks, "Do you want to fly it with me?" We all run to the top of the big hill. The kite goes way, way up, higher than the tree, higher than the clouds even! Biscuit chases its shadow all over the grass.

The kite is red and yellow with a long rainbow tail. The ducks fly up next to it in a V shape. Max says it's the coolest thing he ever saw. Then the sun starts going down, all orange and pink, and it's time to ride home. Lily waves bye from the hill.
